My Story
My journey toward becoming a therapist has been deeply shaped by my personal and professional experiences, many of which focus on supporting women and individuals with disabilities. Throughout my life, I have witnessed the damaging effects of hostility, systematic abuse, isolation, and coercive control—issues that continue to impact women disproportionately. For me, counselling has always been a platform to empower women, giving them the voice and representation they need in society.
Almost twenty years ago, during my first psychotherapy training, I conducted interviews with women visiting a psychiatric day centre. What struck me most was that all the women I spoke with had endured some form of abuse, either in childhood or within their marriages. They saw their situations as hopeless, as if enduring these traumas was a natural part of their womanhood. It was then that I realized how much more these women needed—a supportive community, long-term counselling, and meaningful relationships—far beyond the medication or occasional short-term therapy sessions they were offered.
As part of my personal development, I began my therapeutic journey by participating in group therapy led by Peter Szil, a prominent figure in gender issues and domestic violence. This transformative experience allowed me to dive deep into trauma work, exploring the power imbalances that give rise to violence and control in society. I learned how trauma forms within social contexts, often leaving a profound imprint on the individual, and how recovery involves healing that damage and restoring balance.
This experience has profoundly shaped my understanding of trauma and therapy, and I continue to carry his teachings with me as I work to support others. I believe that with compassion, safety, and guidance, every person can rebuild their self-worth and reclaim their power. My mission is to offer that space—one where you can explore your feelings, heal from your past, and move toward a future of empowerment, self-actualization, and inclusivity.
My professional path has also been shaped by my work with individuals with special needs. For over two decades, I have worked as a Special Education Needs (SEN) teacher and therapist, supporting children and adults with disabilities, including Autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, and developmental delays. This experience has given me a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by individuals with special needs and their families, and how essential it is to provide compassionate, tailored support to help them thrive. Working with vulnerable populations has further strengthened my belief in empathy, patience, and individualized care in fostering growth and healing.
How am I working?
I strongly believe in the importance of safety. I provide a non-judgmental and secure space for you to explore your emotions, gain a better understanding of your relationships and situation, and discover your true potential. I see myself as your guide and companion on your journey, and my approach is primarily cooperative. I have been trained as an integrative counsellor, incorporating psychodynamic and person-centred modalities, as well as attachment theory, polyvagal theory, and trauma-based psychology into my practice.
The therapeutic relationship, which I consider to be the most valuable aspect of psychotherapy, will be the foundation of our work. My approach is collaborative, meaning that I will follow your lead to create the best therapy for you. After we agree to work together, we will complete a comprehensive assessment focusing on all important areas of your life. Following the evaluation, we will establish a priority list and gather information about the resources available within your network and the community. In subsequent sessions, I will integrate somatic work, breath work, and visualisation techniques. When applicable, I will also utilise creative methods such as drawing and working with clay. However, I firmly believe that the most beneficial approach involves traditional talking and active listening.
Therapy is not a quick fix. It's possible to gain insight and improve your relationships by making small adjustments, even after just a few sessions. You might start feeling better quite soon. Sharing your inner world with someone and letting go of worries and burdens can be a relieving experience. These initial "aha" moments can be significant, but lasting, meaningful change requires more commitment. Rebuilding trust and changing long-solidified patterns takes time. I recommend a minimum of five sessions, and we can assess your progress around the third session. During that time, you can decide whether to continue or stop. This process is a safe way to become familiar with therapy and gradually immerse yourself in it.
I offer both confidential online and face-to-face sessions in North London. For best results, it is recommended that we meet regularly, preferably weekly for 50 minutes unless we agree otherwise.
I am comfortable working with people from diverse ethnic and multicultural backgrounds and welcome the opportunity to do so. I offer therapy in English and Hungarian.
